One of Amioun’s prominent features is the
multitude of its churches. Of the thirteen churches in the town, the two
most important ones-historically speaking- are the Cathedral of St George
El Dahleez and the Church of St Phocas. In fact, there are sites in Amioun
that go back to the Phoenician Period (the rocky belt known as El Sheer),
to the Roman Period (St Marina’s cave and St George El Dahleez
columns), and to the Crusader Period (the tower-St Phocas).
