As The Municipality of Amioun found that the Twinning Project between the 2 Cites: Amioun in Lebanon and Kalamata in Greece, has many advantages regarding the increase, development and exchange of expertise in the social, environmental, cultural, scientific and technological aspects. It approved The Twinning Project between The Municipality of Amioun and The Municipality of Kalamata under the decision number 105 on 23/09/2001.
After acquiring the approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants number 5789/8 on 19/12/2001 and the approval of the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities number 13324/d on 31/01/2002, the Twinning Protocol was signed in Kalamata on 31/05/2002.
Kalamata is a city in the South of Greece; it is the capital of Messenia district in the Peloponnesus province. It is located about 350 Km to the south-west of Athens.
